SPANISH ERCOLINE FRESH PEAR CROPS

Spanish Ercolini fresh pear from Jumilla, covered by the Denomination of Origin “Pera de Jumilla”.

The Ercolini fresh pear produced in Jumilla is distinguished both by the characteristics of the product, caused by the special microclimate of the area, and by the characteristics of the production applied by farmers and fruit and vegetable centers.

The product presents differentiating characteristics with respect to other regions: reddish sheet on its sunny side due to the great amount of insolation it receives; a higher degree of sugar; as well as greater earliness, hardness and caliber.

GEOGRAPHICAL AREA OF ERCOLINI FRESH PEAR FROM SPAIN

The area of production, conditioning and packaging of the ercolini pear is made up of land located in the municipality of Jumilla, in the province of Murcia, located in the southeast of Spain.

The environment and the meticulous daily care of our crops allow us to obtain the best high-quality Ercolini fresh pear for export and distribution.

Our fresh pear is protected and regulated by the DOP Pera de Jumilla, a body that regulates the physicochemical and organoleptic characteristics of our ercolina pear.

1. Ground care

Normally we maintain the soil by tilling or mowing vegetation to control weeds.

2. Soil composition

The soils in which we grow the Spanish Ercolini fresh pear are predominantly limestone, being a valley area with limestone soils and crusts, located between limestone mountains, which provide what this crop needs.

3. Irrigation

To irrigate the Fresh Pear ercolina crops we use drip irrigation, optimizing the amount of water that each tree needs.

4. Pruning

Both the pruning and the “thinning” or “clarified” of the ercolini fresh pear tree are carried out manually, by our qualified personnel, using training systems with a tendency to achieve a good balance between tree vegetation and production, making the sun’s rays penetrate all parts of the tree, to obtain a great quality of pear quality and uniformity.

5. Gathering

One of the most important parts of the production process of Ercolini Pears is the harvest time, beginning to harvest depending on when our field technicians and Jumilla Pear Regulatory Council determine. To do this, various parameters are taken into account, such as caliber, skin color, hardness analysis and sugar level, determining whether the pear is optimally ripe for harvesting or not.

THE JUMILLA FRESH PEAR GROWS IN A UNIQUE CLIMATE

Jumilla’s climate, with a special influence on the Mediterranean Sea due to its proximity and warm climate, is complemented by sufficient altitude to provide the necessary winter temperatures for the cultivation of the Ercolini fresh pear tree.

In our fields we have a very dry and arid climate, which is why we have all the crops fully irrigated. In addition, the prevailing winds in the area are from the Northwest, dry and warm at sunset, which facilitate the control of diseases in crops.

We have the ercolini fresh pear farms oriented in such a way that we achieve great luminosity due to the incidence of sunlight.

The average temperature in Jumilla is 15.7ºC (annual average), without very marked nocturnal contrasts and in the absence of frost in spring, which favors rapid fruit growth.

During the maturation of the Spanish Ercolini fresh pear, having a high number of hours of sun and a great solar radiation, becomes the reason that they have a high soluble solids content, so the quality and content of the sugar make us produce some of the most juicy fresh pears.

HOW TO OBTAIN A QUALITY ERCOLINI FRESH PEAR

The factors by which we obtain a high-quality Ercolini Fresh Pear are very diverse, since many factors influence it. The most important thing is to know the crop in depth and know what its needs are at all times, from planting, orientation, maintenance, harvesting, among other reasons.

The important work carried out by our field technicians and the knowledge they have in each of the factors is remarkable. Without them, we would not be able to obtain the high quality of product in all our collections.
